The need for taking care of our mental health is at an all-time high like never before. It is seen that many of us have become health conscious. We do a lot about taking care of our physical health, and we do everything from working out at the gym, dieting, exercising, and a lot more. But have you ever thought your mental health needs proper care too? Especially now when the stress levels are so high. According to one recent media report, what is so worrying in India is that the suicide rates amongst the youth are rising rapidly.

What does the study reveal?

According to the report, over 1.39 Lakhs Indians died by suicide in the year 2019. And amidst this staggering number, as much as 67 % of them are in the age group of 18 years to 45 years. So going by the numbers, you would find that maximum of them pertain to the youth of India. It was only recently that the sudden suicide by Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput took the country by storm. However, there has been a lot of controversies over the actual cause of his death. But the unfortunate incident has indeed left most very sad and depressed. With the number of suicidal deaths rising, it is high time we did something about taking care of our mental health. But before going further, let us first see the probable reasons that drive a person to suicide.

What drives a person to suicide?

Committed suicide is an unfortunate reality for many people. It can happen to anyone, at any time and in any place, if they feel blocked or restricted from their life path by some event outside themselves. For children below the age of 18, it appears as though family issues play a significant role when committing self-harming behavior. While among adults 45 years old and upwards, there have been cases where mental illness has caused them wantonly lose hope leaving behind nothing but sheer emptiness before death could take its toll on him or herself.

Suicidal Trends seem worrying for India.

The statistics on suicide are alarming. In 2019, there were 1.39 lakh suicides recorded in the country, with roughly 93,016 or 67 percent committed by youngsters (aged 18+ and below 45). More importantly, however, 31% of these cases involved family problems, which led them into despair, leading to their death at an earlier age than what would have been expected if it weren’t for this issue. The next biggest cause was mental illness accounting for 6%, drug abuse/alcoholic addiction accounted for 5%.
The National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) report shows that most people who commit suicide are males. In addition, it is shown in this document how family problems lead to more deaths than any other cause. According to NCRB data, 71% of those who died due to mental illness were male, while 64% belonged to love affairs or liquor addiction cases.
Data regarding gender deals mostly on one side female sex which accounts for only 9 percent out all victims’ population at risk since 1880s period when female mortality rate started rising sharply after birth control pill launched into the market place.

Facts reported by the World Health Organization (WHO)

“WHO” claims that the single largest illness in the world is depression. 300 million+ people globally have this mental disorder, which has been called “the silent killer.” 240 of them are living with anxiety too! Suppose you have any other ailment or disease that doctors don’t treat. In that case, it will worsen if not appropriately dealt with–so why doesn’t anyone talk about how many millions experience both types?
Please do yourself a favor: don’t be one of these statistics anymore; speak out so we can change attitudes around here before things retake notice.

Conclusion

So, what is even more worrying is that, unlike physical illness, in the case of mental illnesses, often the patients do not feel that they are suffering from some mental disorders. The result is that the problem goes on unnoticed and thus unattended. All these are ultimately taking their toll in the form of suicide.
It is, therefore, time we acted. If you suspect that you or a near or dear one is undergoing some mental problem, you must identify the same immediately.
